Former Virtua Standouts Ryan Lohin and Tommy Panico getting direction from Coach Bazin, as UMass Lowell competes with Notre Dame to earn a birth in the NCAA Frozen Four

March 23, 2017- With the NCAA Championship Tournament starting this weekend, we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some former Virtua Hockey standout players. The Penn State Nittany Lions, fresh off their Big Ten Conference Championship, feature two Virtua Hockey alums - goaltender Peyton Jones and defenseman Kevin Kerr.  Jones, who in his time with Virtua led his 14U team to a USA Hockey Nationals appearance, last weekend earned the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player award following his 51 save performance in a double overtime win over Wisconsin.

Also playing this Friday for Providence will be Kyle McKenzie, a Virtua Hockey alum who was part of our very successful Midget teams.

Competing on Saturday will be UMass Lowell’s forward Ryan Lohin and defensemen Tommy Panico and Avni Berisha.  Lohin was recently named to the Hockey East Conference All-Rookie team, and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh round of the 2016 NHL Draft.  Lohin and his teammates will be facing off against Cornell’s Dwyer Tschantz, another Virtua Hockey alum who participated at the USA Hockey National Championships.
More information about the Frozen Four tournament, including game times and TV listings, can be found on their website.

Best of luck to all of our local players in the upcoming tournament!
